2007
Trying to catch up with a very fast year....
February Boca Raton Arts Festival, Florida info
My first venture to Florida was a big eye opener. Holy sea-cow! From the sublime to the ridiculous, and sometimes, as with the manatees, both at the same time! Favorite side trips included Shark Valley and Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. I felt like I was in the middle of a Ranger Rick magazine!!
March Gasparilla Festival of Art, Tampa Florida info
2007 Poster Artist
Tampa was welcoming- though not warm! It was quite an honor to be the poster artist, and program artist, and I had some rock-star moments, seeing my images all over the show, and signing posters. But my favorite part of this show was teaching some classes at Safety Harbor Middle School. Wow. My admiration for teachers, which is already high, went way up. I taught for two hours and was completely wiped out, but really charged up by the kid's imaginations. They saw so many things that most adults don't.
Bayou City Art Festival, Spring, Memorial Park, Houston TX info
I got a mysterious little box in the mail from My Table Magazine. It turned out to be a Lone Star award from the Houston Press Club for my photo essay in last May's issue. Quite an honor to get statewide recognition from a big ol' state like Texas!
May Locust Factory, Kansas City info
I love KC, and so to be part of first Friday in the Crossroads was a real treat. I had a chance to show my head-shots, which I don't usually take to festivals, and we made the evening into a benefit for Water Partners International.

Art Fair at Laumeier- St. Louis, MO info
"This is SO fun!" was our mantra for the weekend, and somehow that made it true, despite horrible rain during set up, and THE worst hotel foul up (really foul!) that I've ever experienced. Luckily, what I remember most about the weekend is laughter and silliness, not so much the mud and stink.
Affaire in the Garden, Beverly Hills CA info
Gil Borgos Award for Originality 2006, Honorable Mention, Photography 2007
This show gets my people-watching award, though it was a tight run with Boca Raton. It's actually a meta-people watching award, since part of the fun is watching people who are watching people, or who are watching to see if people are watching them.
June 57th Street Art Festival, Chicago info Invited Artist
This show gets my award for most smarty-boots in the crowd. Not surprising, since the show almost sits on one of the top universities in the world. It's a pleasure, and good mental exercise, to have so many challenging conversations in one weekend.
Old Town Art Festival, Chicago Invited Artist 2008 info
The picture is from 2006. Old Town is an absolutely fabulous show, cursed with a "morning-of" set up, which means 200 artists showing up at 5 or 6 or 7 in the morning. In this case, in the pouring rain. Thank goodness for Gore-tex!
Marin Art Festival Invited Artist 2008 info
This gets my award for most artist-friendly show! Elegant and funky, just like Marin, it's got a great feel of creativity and camaraderie.

Edible San Francisco- Cover Art info
I've always loved the eager way things grow in the most unlikely places. I thought this was the perfect setting for a magazine dedicated to local foods and small farming.

July Madison Art Fair on the Square Invited Artist 2007 info
OK, after 4 years or whatever of getting lost here all the time, I finally figured out a new tactic. I look up at the capitol dome, and I see where the lady is pointing. It's been a lifesaver! I mean really, if you had two lakes on opposite ends of streets with the same names, wouldn't you name the lakes something wildly different? Monona and Mendota?? Don't get me wrong, I love this city. It's been fun getting to know it a bit over the last few years.
Ann Arbor Street Art Fair info
If you don't count the freak tornado scare on Thursday... this was the most spectacular weather ever for the Ann Arbor show. And I got a Razor scooter to tool around on, and some outstanding local help, making the whole four days delightfully tolerable. Oh, and after breakdown, I went and got a Zingerman's Reuben, some chocolate pudding, and the new Harry Potter book. I got into my hotel bed and ate and read and slept in alternation until 1 pm the next day. Yum!
August Kimball Park City Art Festival info
I associate Park City with thin air and fat(tening) food. I was not disappointed. It was beautiful, tasty, and I indulged in a couple of days of R&R at the Washington School B&B. Two thumbs up! You can find their cookie recipes on their website.
Sun Valley Center Arts and Crafts Festival info
I exchanged my campsite for a cozy bed at Barbara Kline's this year, and it was fabulous. Almost like camping, except that there was a shower and toilet, and a coffee maker with a timer, and no frost on the table in the morning...and fluffy towels... and a few other amenities. My best wishes to all the locals who suffered through the smoke and the stress of the fire that followed the show.
Palo Alto Arts Festival info
Some of my best comments ever came from this show. One young boy started pointing at the pictures and describing actions- "These are the guys who swim in the watermelon. These are the guys who paint the flowers.." Then he pointed to Rush Hour, and said, "These are the guys who get the pennies dirty because if all the pennies were clean all the time, nothing would be interesting." Oh yeah- that's why I'm out here..
September Sausalito Art Festival info
Wild Weldon and Jodi Gay Perry saved me from a Bridget Jones moment at the Sausalito Gala. I got all dolled up for the Summer of Love party (OK, I was a little more Austin Powers) and then most folks around were in seriously classy attire. Whoops!
Plaza Art Festival Invited Artist 2008 info
It doesn't get better than this. Good friends. Good weather (mostly), great customers, fun press, and then an invitation to come back next year and do it again! I felt like a Kansas City Star. What a great way to end the traveling season.

But wait, there's more...
